Some of our greatest lessons have been learned from our biggest failures. I've had a lot of failures to learn from lately. This project was birthed out of one such failure... One day I was dropping off my 5 year old daughter at school. As we walked into her classroom, suddenly my stomach sank. Oh no. Today is apple day. Today I was supposed to give my daughter an apple for school and I FORGOT! Ugh. My daughter realized she didn't have an apple and a look of panic flooded her face. She started to cry and my heart broke. It meant a lot to her to be prepared and I dropped the ball. Thankfully her sweet teacher had extra apples so everything ... read more

Five Dollar Mirror Makeover
Let me tell you a story about an old mirror. Many years ago my mother-in-law (AKA the Queen of yard sales) bought this mirror thinking we could use it somewhere. It was old, dirty and not my style. "What in the world am I going to do with this thing?!?" That was my first thought about the mirror. You'll have to forgive my faithless reaction. I wasn't blogging and doing easy DIY projects back then. I couldn't see the potential in things like I do now. Not knowing the potential the mirror had, I put it in a closet and completely forgot about it... ...until a couple months ago. I rediscovered it while cleaning out my closet. Now, after many years, ... read more

Make Thank You Note Writing With Kids Easy
Can I make a confession? I hate writing thank you notes. I don't know what it is but writing thank you notes is one task I tend to procrastinate on. Last week, my son had his third birthday. It was pure joy watching him play with his friends and seeing his reaction as he opened presents from the people we love most. Now that the party is over, the time has come to write the thank you notes. I want my children learn the art of saying thank you despite my strong dislike of writing thank you notes. The act of writing thank you notes offers a great opportunity to teach kids about gratitude while providing a fun activity that can adapt to kids of all ages and ... read more

This has been a BIG week in our family. My baby just turned 3. I know, he's not a baby anymore but he'll always be "my baby". As if that weren't enough change, I decided to potty train my son this week too. Almost nothing is more exhausting than potty training. The method I'm (sort of) following requires you to stay with the child at all times for three days straight. That way you can catch the {ahem} event happening and rush them to the potty. One really good thing that comes out of potty training is all the special time we spent with each other. We've been snuggling up together and reading tons of books. I love these precious times ... read more

Handmade Christmas Gift Tags
Hello Carrie This Home readers! My name is Jamie and today I'm visiting from my blog, anderson + grant. I'm so excited that Carrie invited me here to share a Christmas project with you. I've found that when people know that you are a creative individual, they tend to give you strange items to make something out of. Today's project was created from one of those "donations." My aunt had a bunch of Formica samples leftover from a recent kitchen remodeling project. Rather than throw them away, she decided there had to be something I could make out of them. There are times that I have to really think about what an item can become, but as soon as I saw ... read more

Raise your hand if you struggle with how to teach contentment and thankfulness to your kids. {I'm waving both hands wildly in the air} Let's face it. I'm a grown adult and sometimes I struggle to be content and thankful! I want my children to learn how to be content with where they are and what they have. If I'm honest, most days I'm having "talks" with them and trying to convince them to be more thankful. My "talks" sound something like this: No. You don't need another stuffed animal when you have 50 others you don't play with. Yes you got a toy the last time we went shopping but that doesn't mean you get one on every trip. The only reason you ... read more

Little do they know it, but I often perform experiments on my friends. If you happen to be one of those friends, I bet you're now worried about what I've done to you. Don't worry! Most of those said experiments involve food... Last month I made some Orange Cream Fudge and loved the results. I wanted to do a twist of that recipe just for Fall. I made a batch of this fudge and brought my "experiment" to an event at my church. I frequently "test" my recipes on my friends before passing them on to my lovely readers. Shhh...don't tell anyone! How To Tackle Kids Clutter
Why do the best toys come with a gazillion pieces? Who needs a 152 piece tool set? And a 1,001 piece hair decorating kit? Apparently, my kids do. Sometime in the past 5.5 years since I've become a parent, I've noticed a disturbing trend in my home. We have clutter. More specifically, toy clutter. Everywhere. Needless to say the potential for mess in my house is high. Before you lose all hope, don't worry. Recently we tackled the clutter in my son's room and made it a place where we're all happy. You can keep those 152 piece tool sets AND tackle clutter. Your child can easily find their toys all while you enjoy a ... read more

I enjoy all the seasons but Fall is one of the best. The changing colors of leaves, the crisp fresh air, and the excuse to drink hot chocolate are just a few of the reasons why I heart Fall.
