Hi! I’m Carrie and I don‘t have it all together. I am a busy mom to two crazy kiddos. Being a mother has made every imperfection in my personality come out. Which is why the following is my tagline for life:
A little bit of coffee and a LOT of Jesus helps me get through the day.
I married my college sweetheart and the two of us are often found making each other laugh at our own weird quirks. Quirks you ask. Yes I have lots of them.
Here’s just a few:
- I have a slight Chicago (Chic-ahhhhh-go) accent that my hubby loves to point out
- I used to be a collegiate track and field runner. Now I’m just lucky to get 2 workouts in a week!
- I often wait until the kids are in bed before I break out the really good snacks because I don’t want to share!
- I know people by what kind of car they drive {not so much by names}
- I call myself a “wanna-be” photographer. I’m in the process of learning how to take awesome shots.
- Without my contacts, I’m blind as a bat. Seriously–my eye glasses are as thick as the bottom of a coke bottle!
- I was once stopped in security for what appeared to be a marijuana grinder (see that story here)
Meet the other real-life characters in my life:
My hubby my hilarious “partner in crime” is a teacher, a cyclist, and a source of entertainment to those around him. He loves to make people laugh which is one of the many reasons I married him. He often helps me see that I can relax a little and I don’t have to take things so seriously.
I should also mention one important thing. In all my DIY project posts, I talk about “us” doing all the steps. That’s a complete sham. My hubby does 99.9% of all the work on our projects.
My Daughter is a spunky, hilarious-just-like-her-daddy girl who loves to spend time reading and playing with her family.
My Son (aka Sir-screams-a-lot) is my cuter than anything, final addition to our crazy family. He melts my heart and drives me crazy simultaneously. That takes some serious talent!
Here’s a little taste of what you’ll find at Carrie This Home:
There are three main things I love to blog about:
- Easy Cooking. I am a self-proclaimed lazy cook that loves finding easy recipes so I can keep up with my busy life.
- DIY Projects. My hubby and I spend quality time at the home-improvement store dreaming up of big changes/improvements we can make to our home.
- Helpful Tips. I want to give each of my readers something useful to “Carrie” home.
- My life and struggles. I’m far from perfect and I love to encourage others to find strength in Jesus.

Carrie – How did you buy the wood for the filing cabinet desk top. Coincidentally I have the same filing cabinets pictured, I’ve just been trying to find a top to purchase for it. Help me not look like a fool when I go into a store and can ask for what I need specifically. I don’t want a plywood and yours looks so much more elegant. Can you ask your husband what this is called?
Carrie says
For this particular project we used a craft project board which is normally costs around $15. We used that because we found one that had a small crack towards one of the edges so we got it for a discount. Don’t worry about looking like a fool. When we’re working on a project I ask the employees at Lowe’s and they’re always really helpful. If you go to the store as for a craft project board that is big enough to use as a desk surface. If they don’t have one, ask what they would recommend to use instead. I hope that helps!

I found you on Pinterest and came to your website because of the Bible verses you had left for comfort. If you could possibly keep me in your healing thoughts and prayers I would greatly appreciate it . Dec 16 of 2017 the love of my life passed away unexpectedly.I think if he had died of a disease it would of been easier to prepare for but to die of a massive heart attack at the age of 52 I just can’t quite move forward emotionally let alone quit missing him because it’s so quiet here without him.I miss every loving gesture of his,our conversations, the laughter, we had so much left to do,places to go things to accomplish. He was always giving his time to help others he lived his life in such a way that he wanted to make a difference where ever he was be it on the job or at home and how do you move forward when your heart misses so much …thanks D

I am so very sorry to hear of your loss, Denise. I would be happy to pray for you. Grief is a very difficult and unpredictable emotion. I will pray that God gives you comfort and peace as He walks you through this difficult time.

Carrie, I stumbled on your post on Pinterest and I immediately feel a connection with you and I’m so glad you are open and honest about yourself and your life. It is definitely encouraging hearing other women who struggle with getting too upset with their kids but who love Jesus and know that he is there to help us. I believe it with my whole heart and He has helped me beyond measure. Thank you for sharing who you are! I needed to read your blog!
Carrie says
Thank you so much for your sweet words and encouragement Hillary! I am so glad you shared your experience because that is exactly how I want my readers to feel–welcomed and loved as they are!
It’s been amazing seeing what Jesus has done with some of the posts I’ve written–especially the one about yelling. So many other women have shared that they too struggle with the same thing. It’s no wonder why God encouraged me to share that! I’m just happy to play a part in helping encourage other moms.
Thanks for encouraging me today!

Okay, can I just say first of all, I love that you admitted you wait until the kids are asleep for the good snacks; cause that’s totally me. Secondly, thank you for saying that you don’t have it all together, I’m glad I’m not the only one. 🙂
Carrie says
You are very welcome Justine! I’m glad to share my weaknesses and how God helps me through them because I know that helps encourage others!

Love the photos! A “supportive” other half is the most amazing gift isn’t it?!
