Hello. My name is Carrie and I’m a baby monitoraholic.
While pregnant with my first child, my sister-in-law gave me advice on what baby “equipment” we might want. One of the suggestions was a video baby monitor. It didn’t take much convincing. I was sold.
I figured being able to hear AND see the baby would make me less likely to sneak into the room to check on them and accidentally wake them up. I was right.
I slept better at night knowing that if my baby cried a little, I could check on them from the comfort of my bed. I don’t feel the need to run into the nursery right away when I hear a cry. This has saved me a LOT of sleep and sanity. Thank you technology!
When baby number two was on the way we bought a new monitor that hooks up to two different cameras onto the same parent unit.
Two kids. One monitor. Awesome!
Now I’m even more addicted.
My husband makes fun of me for the amount of times I “check” on the kids. If you add up my “checks” throughout the day and night I’m sure it would add up to a huge chunk of time. He has much more peace about the kids than I do.
This amount and access to control has created a whole different kind of problem. When the kids get older it’s time to put away the monitor for good, I think I’m going to have to go into therapy. Having “control” like this is great. But how am I going to give this up when it’s time?
I’ve imagined when my kids are teenagers I could hide the camera in their rooms to make sure there’s no shenanigans going on. Or make sure they haven’t snuck out of the house.
Our second (and probably last) child is 11 months old. Still in need of monitoring for a while (phew). I’ve decided to hang on to my precious monitor as long as he “needs” it. Because he’s the one that needs it. Not me.
Tell me I’m not in denial 😉
