Today I’m sharing a a couple quick tips for beautiful flowers all year long. The best tip is one I learned from my Mom.
She’s always had a green thumb and loves to garden. Her flowers are always well cared for and look gorgeous.
Me on the other hand–I’m lucky to keep a plant alive for more than two weeks.
If you’re like me and gardening doesn’t come natural to you, don’t worry. You can have a “brown thumb” and still have beautiful flowers all year long.
Tips For Beautiful Flowers All Year Long
- Fake It! One little trick my Mom does is she uses fake flowers among in-season flowers to add more color and life to landscaping. The picture below is a great example of this trick. Both flowers are colorful and add a lot of life. But only one type is real!
- Be careful–don’t use too many fake flowers. If everything in your landscaping is fake, it won’t look right.
- Buy some in-season flowers that work well with your climate.
- Ask for help! Go to your local nursery or home improvement store and ask an associate which flowers will most likely thrive in the type of soil you have. Just because you pick a pretty flower doesn’t mean it will grow well in your yard.
- Go colorful! Think of flowers as accent colors to the outside of your home. In this picture you can see that my Mom’s door is a beautiful shade of green, so she chose flower colors that compliment it. Plus the green with the amber red and orange looks great in the fall!

These are great tips! The folks at our local nursery are super helpful. I always make it a habit to ask them for suggestions each season. I love the trick of combining faux with real for a more colorful look. Clever!

I love the idea of adding faux flowers to bolster the pots! I hate it when my garden looks scrawny in the beginning! I am pinning your tips so I remember next spring! 🙂
