Get Rid of Greasy Hair In 10 Minutes

September 3, 2014 by Carrie

Have you ever noticed your hair getting greasy but you don’t have time to shower?  Me too!  A shower would solve the greasy hair problem but it takes a lot of time to go through the whole process.

I have great news!  I recently found a life hack that that solves the greasy hair problem so well it’s been a huge game changer for me!

Best hair hack ever! How to get rid of greasy hair in 10 minutes

This tip is perfect for busy women, new mothers, and for people like me who need a quicker solution.

My hair gets VERY greasy if it’s not washed everyday.  My hubby jokes if I go too long without washing my hair, it looks like I’ve put hair gel in it.  I guess I can’t blame him when it looks like this:

Easy way to get rid of greasy hair

There are ways to cover up greasy hair.  But baby powder and dry shampoos only cover the problem.  After awhile that greasiness always makes a come back!

I found a fast way to get rid of greasy hair–not just cover it up.  In fact, this method should take only about 10 minutes!  Here’s the secret:  you won’t be washing all your hair–just the part on the top that everyone sees!  Only washing the top portion of your hair will give you the clean look you want while saving you tons of time!

Here’s how to get rid of greasy hair in 10 minutes:

1) Separate the top portion of your hair that you want to wash and put it up in a high pony tail.
2) Put the remaining hair underneath in a pony tail to keep it out of the way, like in the picture below.

How to get rid of greasy hair in 10 minute! This is a HUGE time saver!

3) Take the top pony tail out releasing the hair that you will wash.
4) Hold your head upside down in either a sink or bathtub and wash & condition the top portion of your hair.  If your hair is longer, it may be best to do this in the tub so your hair doesn’t go down the drain.  Keep the back portion of your hair out of the water.
5) Dry your hair with a towel trying to get as much moisture out of the hair as you can.
6) Take out the ponytail and blow dry and style your hair like normal.

Boom!  You’re done!  Wasn’t that easy?

I’ve used this method on myself many times and even with washing, conditioning, blow drying AND flat ironing, I can still get it done in about 10 minutes.

Now THAT’S a time saver!

If you found this post helpful, go ahead and pin it for me!  I’d really appreciate it!

Years ago, my hair would get incredibly greasy. I wore bangs during this time. I had little time to wash all my hair, but could disguise it by styling it into a bun or ponytail. I’d then stand over the sink and wash and rinse only my bangs, dry them in a few seconds, and nobody could tell I hadn’t washed all my hair!

Washing just part of your hair makes a big difference, doesn’t it? Thanks for sharing your tip with us Jen!

Um…isn’t it just as fast to wash ALL your hair in the tub or sink? That’s what I do when I don’t have time for a shower. Your hair must be super thick and full if washing half of it is actually less time consuming than washing all of it. For my basically normal shoulder length hair, taking the time to separate the bottom from the top and the care to make sure the bottom didn’t get any soap or water on it would make up for the extra time “saved” in only washing HALF my hair. This “hack” strikes me as rather bizarre.

Sure that might work for some people so if washing all your hair works–go for it! For my hair the time saved comes in not having to dry and straighten all of it. Just doing that to the top portion of my hair really does save a lot of time 🙂

I can totally related to never having enough time…even to wash my hair. After having a kid, time is a precious commodity.

Love the originality of your blog!!

Hey, I just read your comment and I dont know if you know this or not but they make shampoo and conditioners for soft and hard water. I have hard water and i get build up bad just from the water so it weighs my hair down. I was told by my salon to try using that kind of shampoo at least once a week to help with that problem..the soft water shampoo would work the same way I would assume. I got mine at Sallys, if you have one near you 🙂 if not I am sure somewhere local would have it too 🙂

I was thinking this was a dry shampoo tutorial! But no! This is much better! I’m going to try this tomorrow after I workout and shower.

I will have to try this – on a yoga workout day because on a cardio or weight day I sweat a lot and have to wash all of my hair! I have been using the cornstarch in the brush method lately that I saw on another blog and that works pretty well – on yoga day! It actually makes my hair seem smoother and more manageable, too. Thanks for sharing this technique.

      September 5, 2014 at 7:50 am

I hate it when I workout just enough to mess up my hair! I bet between this method and the cornstarch method you’ll be set for both yoga and cardio days!
