Doing the right thing can be hard.
In one of my last posts, I said I would share a fun tutorial showing you how to make a Frozen Inspired Birthday Party Invitation.
I’m sorry to say I can’t do that.
{I will be sharing a free printable so hang with me…}
I had the post all done and was really excited to share it with you.
As I was about to publish it, something made me stop.
I hesitated to click on the Publish button. Why was I hesitating?
Then the thought hit me. This invitation was inspired by a blog post I saw online. I saw someone else make a Frozen Invitation that she was selling. I got really inspired to make my own version with my own personality.
But there was a problem. I was really proud of what I came up with and in the excitement of sharing a project I was proud of, I forgot to ask for permission to share it from the person that inspired it. If I get inspired by someone else’s work and I want to share it on my blog, I try to ask the source of inspiration if it’s okay.
How would I feel if I had a business where I was selling personalized invitations and someone else wrote a tutorial on how to make it at a lower cost?
I don’t think I’d like that.
Since my project was inspired by another blogger, I only felt it right to ask her permission to share it with you. I put everything on hold decided to wait and ask permission to share the invitation tutorial.
Out of respect for my fellow blogger, I will not be sharing the tutorial. It’s not what I wanted to do but it’s the right thing to do.
Sometimes I’m amazed at God’s direction and wisdom. He was the reason I hesitated to publish that post. Maybe He knew that post would upset my fellow blogger. Maybe He was trying to help me learn a lesson. Maybe He was protecting me.
I’m thankful for the kind and gentle direction from my Heavenly Father. It really is true that when I put my trust in Him, He will direct my paths. When I ask Him for direction, He shows me what to do.
I promised you an invitation tutorial and couldn’t do that. So I will leave you with a free printable of one of my favorite verses.
“Trust in the Lord and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3 5-6

What a beautiful sentiment and printable. Though I can hear your disappointment of not posting what it was that you originally wanted, your thoughtful discussion is in some ways better. It reminds us to be mindful of others and think before we jump forward with our enthusiasm. Thanks for linking up with Creative Spark!

Oh, what a wonderful example! Thank you so much for being so open and honest about not only your thoughts, your hopes and disappointment and your promptings from the Lord..
I just LOVE the printable! Such a beautiful message. (If you wanted to share it over at http://lifehacks101.com/faith-hacks-link-up-party-week-4/ I would be very honored.)
Messages like this are why I love hanging out with my fellow blogging ladies… it’s so easy to get dragged down by the world’s standards and forget to listen to the still small voice of the Spirit guiding us to a higher, better way!

I’m so happy to hear this was encouraging to you! Knowing that some of the posts I write help others is one of the best parts about blogging!

Your printable is lovely. It’s one of my favorite verses as well. He’s always so willing to guide, but too often we don’t listen. Thank you for sharing your experience. I am glad you followed the prompting you received. You are an honorable woman. I’ve learned from you today.
Happy Sharefest! I hope you have a lovely weekend.

I don’t know what I would do without His direction. So thankful He loves me enough to gently guide me through this life!

Wonderful post! Much to be learned from this post. It can be so easy to copy something from someone in the social media world. May we be careful not to offend or upset another person by not giving credit where it is due. Grateful to have stopped here from The SITS. May you have a great weekend! Blessings.

Carrie,
I am really impressed that you had the courage to share this post. You are a wonderful example of a blogger that we can learn and be inspired from!
Carrie says
Thank you Theresa! I felt the need to explain why I wasn’t sharing something I said I would–not knowing this would be so encouraging to others! I have to say I’m pleasantly surprised by the response to this post!

Carrie, I love how you took a situation and made a positive lesson out of it. You could have reacted in a negative way, but you did not. You chose to listen to the whisper of God. Thanks so much for sharing!

You’re welcome Amy! Clearly God knew the right way to respond and I’m thankful He pointed me to it!

Carrie, this is actually the first post I’ve ever read on your blog, but it makes me want to stick around and be friends with you. I’m sure you put a lot of time into putting that blog post together. How disappointing to have to scrap it, but your integrity is so much more important than a post. And you know what, I may not have stuck around long enough to comment after a Frozen invite post, but I’m here now because of THIS post. He really does always know what’s best for us 🙂
Carrie says
Well said, Amy! I couldn’t agree with you more–God always knows what’s best for us. Thanks so much for your encouragement!

Carrie! I just loved this, and it’s so clear that this wasn’t just the Lord speaking to you, but through you, so you could share His sweet and perfect words with all of those who follow you each week! Doing the right thing isn’t always easy, but you hit it out of the ballpark 🙂
Carrie says
Kristin–your encouragement means the world to me! Thank you so much! It seems like you and I have both found faith in Jesus as we’ve grown up! I wish we lived closer so we could get some coffee and chat about life!
