Orange and Chocolate Halloween Cookies

October 15, 2013 by Carrie

One of my most popular recipes here is my Orange Creamsicle Cookies.  There’s something special about the flavor combination of vanilla & orange.  It reminds me of those push up ice cream treats I had when I was a kid.  If you’ve never had these cookies, click over to that post and try them.  They’re wonderful!

Speaking of flavor combinations, another good one is orange & chocolate.  Whoever thought of that flavor combination is a straight up genius!

I recently decided to do a twist on my Orange Creamsicle Cookies recipe for Halloween this year.  Instead of using white chocolate chips, I swapped them out for milk chocolate chips.

Orange and chocolate is always a good mix in my book, so why not try it?

Through that idea, Orange and Chocolate Halloween Cookies were born.

Orange and Chocolate Halloween Cookies--a must try!

This is a super easy recipe & it’s a great Halloween activity to do with kids since there’s minimal steps and ingredients.  My daughter just happened to be wearing her pumpkin pajamas the morning we made these!  I love it when those convenient coincidences happen!

Orange and Chocolate Cookies--an easy recipe to make with kids!

So get on your costume, get the ingredients and have fun making Orange and Chocolate Halloween Cookies!

Ingredients
  1. 1 box of orange cake mix {important note: you will not follow the directions on the box}
  2. 1 tub of Cool Whip
  3. 1 egg
  4. 3/4 cup milk chocolate chips
  5. 1/2 cup powdered sugar (if desired to keep cookies from sticking together)
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Blend the cake mix, tub of cool whip, and egg together using a mixer with a dough hook if you have one. There isn't a lot of moisture in the dough so if you're stirring by hand let me warn you it will be a CRAZY hard workout for your arms!
  3. Next, fold in the chocolate chips using a big strong spoon.
  4. Spoon heaping teaspoon fulls of dough onto a greased or parchment paper lined cookie sheet. I've found that using a small melon baller works great at spooning out cookie dough and helps keep the cookies all the same size.
  5. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
  6. After the cookies are cool I dip both sides in powdered sugar so they won't stick to each other.
