Rainy Day Activities

Rainy Day Activities

What am I going to do with the kids today?  I pose this question to myself all the time.

If we can go outside and play we have plenty of options.  If it’s raining or too cold to go outside, I suddenly feel very limited.  Today I’m going to share some of my favorite rainy day activities.  None of them involve sitting in front of the TV, either!

Bake Together

Baking is a great activity because it will help teach children how to measure, follow directions, and we all get a sweet treat at the end!

Here’s a couple of my favorite baking projects to do with the kids.  These recipes don’t require a lot of ingredients {cheap} they taste good and aren’t super messy!

  • Orange Creamsicle Cookies
  • 2 Ingredient Cookies
  • Easiest Cake EVER
  • Berry Cobbler

Go To The Bookstore

We love going to the bookstore since there’s a lot of activities set up for children.  We play with the trains, read books, find new toys and have a blast.  It’s also a good chance for Mommy to get some coffee!

Take Goofy Pictures

In an effort to try to teach my daughter how to smile, we took some goofy pictures to show her how not to smile.  Now taking silly pictures is one of our favorite things to do.  Sometimes I like the goofy pictures as much as the good ones!

Play With Toys In The Sink

Sometimes very simple things will keep kids entertained for a long time.  This is one of them!  My daughter has tons of little characters and she loves to pretend they’re swimming or taking a bath in the sink.  There’s something about playing with water that keeps my kids entertained!

Reading

My daughter and I LOVE to read and snuggle.  She’s a really active girl who rarely sits down, except when we read.

Playing Dress-Up

I try to keep old costumes so we can play Dress-Up.  My daughter is a huge Finding Nemo fan and loves to pretend to swim around like a fish.  This activity keeps us busy and active.

Butterfly Activity

One of my popular posts is about a fun butterfly activity I came up with one day.  We pretend my daughter is a caterpillar, wrap her up in a blanket {like a cocoon} and when she comes out she “flies” around the room like a butterfly.

Play Games

The first game we started playing with our 4-year-old is Go Fish & she LOVES it!  We have to prompt her as to who’s turn it is and she still needs some help, but the more she plays the more she learns.  Playing games help teach taking turns, rules, and gives an opportunity to be a good sport.

Listen to music and have a dance party.

This is a great way to get in a little workout while having fun!  I listen to music off my Kindle using Pandora, the computer, or the plain old radio.  Spotify is a great program to use if you want to make a playlist so you can listen to the same songs every time.  Little ones love repetition, don’t they 😉

Have a tickle fest

Both my kids LOVE to be tickled.  Sometimes it’s just fun to lay down and tickle away!  Plus I get to hear my kids laugh which is one of the best sounds in the world.
