When We Get Out…

November 11, 2012 by Carrie

This is what happens when the hubby and I get out just the two of us.

Let me explain…

A couple of months ago we went to a wedding and left the kids with Grandma.  At the reception, there was a photo booth set up and we had SO much fun taking crazy pictures.

I think being sans kids for the night made us a little giddy.

It’s good to get out just the two of us and have some time to be silly.  It’s also good for my kids to know that Mom and Dad have fun together.

Over the years, I’ve learned that getting out just the two of us for a little bit is vital to keeping a healthy relationship with my husband and my kids.  When we go out and choose not to worry about the kids, we both get refreshed.  When we come home we’re both really excited to see the kids.

This has been more of a struggle for me than my husband.  Especially when my first child was young, I had a hard time going out without worrying about how things were going at home.  Not that I don’t trust our babysitters.  They are awesome and I totally trust them.  But every time we went out the nagging fear that something was wrong kept rising up.  I had to choose to ignore it and trust God to take care of them so that I could enjoy my time away.

I’m so glad I chose not to worry about the kids that night.  We ended up with some pretty funny pictures!

This one’s a little more “normal”

My daughter named this one “Backwards”

Children Of The Corn pose.  Whoa.  I look mean when I’m not smiling!

A little time away makes me appreciate my husband and the two wonderful kids God has given me.

Even though it’s not as much of a struggle anymore, I still have to remind myself of these two things when I go out:

1) The kids will be fine.

2) Go out and have some fun!
