Colorful Melted Bead Ornament Activity
Our holiday is always filled with kid friendly crafts. This weekend my three little ones and I created Melted Bead Ornaments for our Christmas decorations. It’s a super simple craft that children of all ages will love to make.
There are only a few supplies needed to make this colorful ornament: plastic pony beads, metal cookie cutters, metal baking sheets and an oven.
There are no scissors, paper, glitter, or smoking hot glue gun needed. This is definitely my kind of kid craft!
To get the craft started, I picked up a huge tub of pony beads from Walmart for less than $5. Pony beads are a versatile craft supply that can be used for many different projects. With 1500 pieces can make a ton of melted bead ornaments!
Next we gathered around the kitchen table with metal baking sheets placed between the children. To make the ornaments, first lay metal cookie cutters on the baking sheet then fill with one layer of plastic beads.
Those little fingers received fine motor workout as the children patiently filled each shape. Carefully check over each to make sure there is only one layer of beads. More than one layer will make the ornaments bumpy as they melt.
Place the baking sheet with the bead filled cookie cutters into a 400 degree oven for 20 minutes.
Do not remove the metal cookie cutters before baking.
After 20 minutes the beads will melt together inside the cookie cutter to form a colorful piece of art! Allow the ornaments to cool completely then pop them out of the mold.
Attach a colorful bow, a loop for hanging, and they are ready for the tree!
I love how the bright melted bead ornaments add pops of color to our Christmas tree. Can you see Santa peeking behind the Christmas tree?
